The chores around the house do not need a high-end model.
Nothing moved on the site for a month because we were busy with what sits underneath it. One of those things was moving some of the work that runs every day onto our own machines.
Collapse story
Most of the work around the house is chores
Renaming files, filing them, writing summaries, checking formats, syncing status, moving a record from one place to another. This happens every day, and there is far more of it than I thought.
I used to send all of it to the best model available. Not because it needed that, but because I was lazy — if I was going to make a call anyway, I might as well call the strongest one.
So I moved them onto our own machines
Some of that now runs on a local model, something in the Qwen3.5 family. The trigger was ordinary enough: tokens were going faster than I expected.
What moved over is all chores, and a chore done wrong is visible at a glance, so I moved them over without worrying.
For one thing, it saves money. For another, it got me sorting the work into tiers: does this need thinking, or does it just need doing?
I had never seriously asked that question before.
The line on the home page holds up better now
The home page says: models and SaaS can change; identity, memory, tools and operational continuity stay anchored in an environment I control.
Running my own model on my own machine is what stops that from being just talk.
Around the same time we have also been building EventTime, so that handoffs between the eight of them follow one fixed path instead of relying on everyone remembering. There is also a weekly research routine running, one we keep for ourselves.
The house did not get smarter. It got tidier.
